St
Paul Trail Accommodation
Turkey’s second long-distance hiking trail
The authors of the Lycian
Way—Turkey’s first long-distance hiking trail—Kate Clow and Terry Richardson
also co-authored Turkey’s second long-distance hiking trail, the St. Paul’s
Way. They created the St. Paul’s Way inspired by St. Paul’s journeys through Anatolia.
Starting near Perge and
Aspendos in Antalya, the trail converges in Sütçüler, Isparta, passes through
Lake Eğirdir, and ends in Pisidia Antiocheia—that is, the Yalvaç district of
Isparta. It is approximately 550 km in total.
The St. Paul Trail is a
500-kilometer marked route that takes 27 days to hike, stretching from Perge,
10 km east of Antalya, to Yalvaç, northeast of Lake Eğirdir. There is a second
branch that begins at Beşkonak, at the entrance to Köprülü Canyon National
Park, 80 km northeast of Antalya. The second branch joins the main route at the
ancient Roan city of Adada. The route passes through Roman roads, trails, and
forest paths; parts of it are suitable for mountain biking. It is a wilder
route than the Lycian Way, starting at sea level and climbing up to 2,200
meters. The route includes two optional summits that climb to an average of
2,800 meters. This route was established by Kate Clow in 2008 to bring tourism
to rural areas and to give hikers a sense of the countryside by following the
places St. Paul passed through during his first journey in Asia Minor.
The starting point in Perge is close to Antalya Airport, and the endpoint is in Yalvaç, near Lake Eğirdir. Eğirdir serves as the primary transportation and lodging hub for the route. The best times for hiking are in the spring and fall—July and August are very hot. You can usually find lodging in village houses or small guesthouses for most nights, but you’ll need to camp on longer stretches—there are plenty of good campsites available.
On this
route, Perge via Eğirdir and Yalvaç are the only places with plenty of
accommodation. Below we list all the accommodation we know along the route.
Even if there is no accommodation listed, villagers may offer you a place to
stay.
The
accommodations listed below on the Western
and Eastern sides are located along different routes leading to the ancient city of Adada. The
accommodations from Adada to Yalavç serve hikers on both routes.
